Bisexual Bond expert Ben Williams and I have been speaking for years behind the scenes, emboldening each other to be more openly queer. After they came out as non-binary, we thought it was about time we tackled The Big Stuff more publicly: gender binaries, putting who we’re attracted to into boxes and, perhaps most profoundly of all, what needs to be going down in our personal lives to make sense of Quantum of Solace.
Queer re-view: Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery
The better part of three decades has passed since Austin Powers first appeared on our screens, the amount of time which Austin and his nemesis, Dr. Evil, were frozen. Has time been kind? Is Powers still groovy? Does he swing or leave us unmoved? Is he the free-spirited antithesis of Bond (as a prolific 007 director claimed) or is he actually just a bit too well behaved?
First we watched all of Roger’s Bond films in one epic 17 hour marathon. Then we binged on Brosnan. Most recently, we devoted an entire day to Daniel Craig. Across these three events, Licence to Queer readers raised more than £7000 for UNICEF and Papyrus - Prevention of Young Suicide. For this year’s fundraiser, in aid of Prostate Cancer UK, it’s the turn of The Other Fellas.
